Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as extremely common in the southern savannahs of Itombweregion in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; locally common thorughout the central plateau of Angola and fairly common throughout Zambia and Mozambique (del Hoyo et al. 2005). The population is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.
