Population justification: The population size is not estimated, although this species' abundance (eBird 2023), even on islands with very little forest cover, indicates that it is not especially small.
Trend justification: Rates of forest loss in this species' range are minimal, equivalent to <2% in the ten years to 2022 (Global Forest Watch 2023, based on data from Hansen et al. [2013] and methods disclosed therein). Otus mantananensis is also extremely resistant to habitat pressures, occurring (and breeding) in a range of habitats including plantations and coconut groves (Allen 2020, eBird 2023). In the absence of any other threats to this species, it is suspected to be have a stable population.
