Current view: Data table and detailed info
Taxonomic note
Previously lumped with E. spectabilis as Eugenes fulgens (del Hoyo and Collar 2014). Populations within the southern portion of the range have been separated as subspecies viridiceps, but validity highly dubious and no constant differences apparent. Monotypic.

Population justification: The global population is estimated at 2,000,000 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2022).
Trend justification: The population trend has not been assessed. Tree cover loss within the range is low (3% over ten years; Global Forest Watch 2021, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein) and the species appears to tolerate at least some habitat disturbance (Powers et al. 2020). Therefore, in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats, the population is tentatively assessed as stable.
