Population justification: The global population was estimated to number 180,000 individuals in 1983 and well over 100,000 pairs in 1987: it has therefore been placed in the population band 100,000-499,999 individuals. The population is suspected to be increasing as ongoing habitat degradation is creating new areas of suitable habitat.

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be increasing as ongoing habitat degradation is creating new areas of suitable habitat.
