Current view: Data table and detailed info
Taxonomic note
Dicaeum rhodopygiale is now treated as a separate species from D. sanguinolentum. Previously, D. sanguinolentum, D. wilhelminae and D. hanieli (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were treated as a single species, D. sanguinolentum following Sibley & Monroe (1990, 1993). See notes under those species for details. Proposed subspecies ablutum, described from Tamansari (Banyuwangi), in E Java, subsumed within nominate. Monotypic.

Population justification: The population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as common (Eaton et al. 2021).
Trend justification: Robust trend data are unavailable for this species. Forest loss in this species' range is minimal (Global Forest Watch 2022, based on data from Hansen et al. [2013] and methods disclosed therein) and the species is somewhat tolerant of degradation (Eaton et al. 2021). In the absence of other acting threats, the population is suspected of being stable.
