Population justification: The population size is preliminary estimated at up to 2,900 individuals (Graves and Schmidt 2015), roughly equating to 1,900 mature individuals. To account for uncertainty, the population is here placed in the band 1,000-2,499 mature individuals, which likely belong to just one subpopulation. The species is described as 'fairly common' (Stotz et al. 1996).

Trend justification: The species appears to react well to habitat conversion and it is hypothesised that the population is increasing as the range expands into open habitats (Graves and Schmidt 2015, Marzluff 2020).
