Population justification: The population is thought to number around 200,000 mature individuals (Santini et al. 2019); to account for uncertainty in the estimate the species is here placed in the band 100,000-499,999 mature individuals. In Peru, the species is described as 'fairly common' (Schulenberg et al. 2010).
Trend justification: The population trend has not been estimated directly. Forest loss within the range has been negligible over the last three generations (3% over 15.3 years; Global Forest Watch 2020). Given the species's dependence on humid montane forest, the rate of population decline may be higher than forest loss; it is thus tentatively placed here in the band 1-9% over three generations.
