Population justification: The global population is estimated to number 1,100,000 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2020) and is increasing (Meehan et al. 2018; Partners in Flight 2020; Wetlands International 2020).

Trend justification: The species is undergoing a large increase (Meehan et al. 2018; Partners in Flight 2020; Wetlands International 2020). Over the past three generations (17.4 years) the rate of increase equated to c.140%, although it is noted that there is a high amount of data deficiency for the species (Pardieck et al. 2018).
