Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified due to recent taxonomic splits. Prior to being split, the species was described as 'fairly common' (Stotz et al. 1996) and 'over most parts of range one of the commonest mountain hummingbirds' (del Hoyo et al. 1999).
Trend justification: Forested habitat within the range is currently not under threat (Global Forest Watch 2021), therefore in the absence of any declines the population is suspected to be stable.
