Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but density descriptions range from fairly common to very common and widespread (Stotz et al. 1996, Rising and Jaramillo 2020). Given the large range, the population is unlikely to be small.
Trend justification: The species' tolerance of and adaptability to open and anthropogenic habitats (Rising and Jaramillo 2020) suggests it is not currently at risk. Therefore, in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats, the population is suspected to be stable. Local declines are however observed in Trinidad due to trapping for the cagebird trade (Rising and Jaramillo 2020).
