Population justification: Partners in Flight place the population size for this species in the range 500,000-5,000,000 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2019, see also Panjabi et al. 2019).
Trend justification: This species is able to tolerate a degree of habitat alteration, but a combination of habitat degradation and hunting pressure is causing a decline in parts of its range. However, it is still common in many areas (del Hoyo et al. 1994), and indeed Partners in Flight consider the population to be stable or even undergoing a slight increase (Partners in Flight 2019, see also Panjabi et al. 2019). It is tentatively assessed here as stable.
