LC
Gray's Grasshopper-warbler Helopsaltes fasciolatus

Taxonomy

Taxonomic note

As part of their overhaul of the Locustellidae (see below) Alström et al. (2018) introduced the generic name Helopsaltes to cover the monophyletic group of Locustella warbler species ochotensispleskei, certhiolapryeri, fasciolatus and amnicola (del Hoyo and Collar 2016, Handbook of the Birds of the World and BirdLife International 2022). They found no morphological diagnostic characters, but identified a clear difference in voice. Helopsaltes takes the masculine form, hence the previous listing as H. fasciolata was incorrect.

Before this genus change, Locustella fasciolata and L. amnicola (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were previously treated as a single species, L. fasciolata, following AERC TAC (2003), Cramp et al. (1977-1994) and Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993). Monotypic.
