Current view: Data table and detailed info
Taxonomic note
Previously listed as Amazilia chrysura (Handbook of the Birds of the World and BirdLife International 2020) and before that as Hylocharis chrysura (del Hoyo and Collar 2014) following Ornelas et al. (2014), now moved back to Hylocharis following a recent overhaul of all genera by NACC, based on McGuire et al. (2014), Stiles et al. (2017a, b) and others. Some authors recognise a subspecies platensis (S Brazil), but size differences and more intense coppery gold on underparts appear to refer to clinal variation. Monotypic.

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but this species is described as 'fairly common' (Stotz et al. 1996). The population is suspected to be increasing as ongoing habitat degradation is creating new areas of suitable habitat (del Hoyo et al. 1999).
Trend justification: The population is suspected to be increasing as ongoing habitat degradation is creating new areas of suitable habitat (del Hoyo et al. 1999).
