Taxonomic note
Brachypteryx montana, B. cruralis, B. sinensis, B. goodfellowi, B. poliogyna, B. erythrogyna, B. saturata and B. floris (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were previously lumped as B. montana following Sibley & Monroe (1990, 1993).

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified. This species is considered to have a medium dependency on forest habitat but also readily uses road-side scrub. Tree cover is estimated to have declined by 1.9% within its mapped range over the past 10 years (Global Forest Watch 2022, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein) but given its tolerance of modified habitats, this is unlikely to have driven population declines. It is therefore thought to have a stable population trend
