Taxonomic note

Thamnistes anabatinus and T. aequatorialis (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were previously lumped as T. anabatinus following AOU (1998 and supplements), SACC (2005 and updates), Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993) and Stotz et al. (1996).

Population justification: The global population has not been quantified given recent taxonomic splits.

Trend justification: The population trend has not been investigated, but the species is suspected to undergo a decline caused by ongoing habitat destruction (del Hoyo et al. 2003). Tree cover within the range is lost at a rate of 7% over ten years (Global Forest Watch 2021, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein). Assuming that population declines are roughly equivalent to the rate of tree cover loss, they are tentatively placed in the band 1-19% over ten years.
