Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but this species is described as 'fairly common' (Stotz et al. 1996). The species is widespread and common, even in heavily converted areas such as around Titicaca. Numbers are expanding owing to habitat conversion, and large areas of its original habitat remain intact (del Hoyo et al. 1992).
