Taxonomic note
Closely allied to P. elegans. Plumage varies throughout range, and subspecies consobrina (N parts of range) and murchisoni (W & SW of range E to C South Australia) sometimes recognized (Gibbs et al. 2001), but variation apparently clinal (Schodde and Mason 1997). Monotypic.
