Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be very widespread and common to abundant (del Hoyo et al. 2001). This species is suspected to be declining locally owing to ongoing destruction of mangrove forests for development. Small island populations may also be at risk from habitat loss and stochastic events (del Hoyo et al. 2001).
