Population justification: The global population is estimated to number 500,000-4,999,999 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2019). The species is described as fairly common to common throughout most of its range, although uncommon to rare at higher altitudes, in north-west Costa Rica and in northern Honduras (del Hoyo et al. 2003).

Trend justification:

The species is undergoing a moderate decline (Partners in Flight 2019), which is thought to be caused by low levels of habitat loss within the range (Tracewski et al. 2016).
