Justification of Red List category
This species has an extremely large range, and hence does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the range size criterion (Extent of Occurrence <20,000 km2 combined with a declining or fluctuating range size, habitat extent/quality, or population size and a small number of locations or severe fragmentation). The population trend appears to be stable, or possibly increasing, and hence the species does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population trend criterion (>30% decline over ten years or three generations). The population size is unknown, but is thought to be large, and hence does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population size criterion (<10,000 mature individuals with a continuing decline estimated to be >10% in ten years or three generations, or with a specified population structure). For these reasons the species is evaluated as Least Concern.
Population justification
Population size information is not available for this species, however it is known to be common (Brewer 2019).
Trend justification
The population is cautiously assessed as stable, however the species may be increasing regionally.
This species occurs across the northern and central parts of South America, in Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, Brazil, northern Peru and Bolivia, as well as north-western parts of Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina.
This species occupies both wet and dry forests, forest edge and light woodland, from sea-level to 1,500 m. It is more abundant in forest interior than at edges, and usually requires substantial understorey, but it does occur in substantially modified areas, such as parks or cemeteries, so long as large trees present (Brewer 2019).
There is no evidence of any substantial threats to this species.
