Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be common on Java and satellite islands (del Hoyo et al. 1999).

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be in decline owing to conversion of breeding colonies into those of Aerodramus fuciphagus in order to profit from the edible-nest harvest (del Hoyo et al. 1999).
