Population justification: The global population is estimated to number 2.6 million mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2019).

Trend justification: The species has been undergoing a large, significant decline at an average rate of 2.2% per year between 1970 and 2017 (Partners in Flight 2019; Rosenberg et al. 2019). Short-term trends suggest that declines have slowed down in recent years and that the population has declined by 3% over the past ten years (Pardieck et al. 2018).
