Taxonomic note
Gymnophaps mada and G. stalkeri (del Hoyo and Collar 2014) were previously lumped as G. mada following Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993).

Population justification: In 1989 the population was estimated at c.43,000 birds (Marsden et al. 1997, Gibbs et al. 2001), therefore a preliminary population estimate places the total population within the band 20,000-49,999 mature individuals.
Trend justification: Montane forests on Buru are still largely undisturbed, and the population is therefore suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.
