Dendropicos obsoletus (del Hoyo and Collar 2014) was previously placed in the genus Dendrocopos. It has previously been placed in the genus Dendropicos by Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993) and Picoides by Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993).
