Justification of Red List category
This species is very poorly known and its known range is very small. It is assumed to have a small population, which may comprise only one subpopulation. The population size is suspected to be declining owing to predation by cats and rats. For these reasons, it is classified as Near Threatened.

Population trend: decreasing

Extent of occurrence (breeding/resident): 1,300 km2
