Population justification: This species is cryptic and core populations may be found on privately owned farms, creating uncertainty over current numbers. However, the global population has been estimated at < 2,500 mature individuals (Peacock 2015; de Bruin 2017). Therefore, it is here placed in the band 1,000-2,499 mature individuals.
Trend justification: Based on modelling by Huntley and Barnard (2012), this species is projected to retain only 13.6-36.4% of its 2012 range by 2025, equating to a loss of 64-86% over the 13 year period. Assuming that the population declines at a similar rate, this equates to a population decline of 54-77% over 10 years. The species is further projected to lose 90-100% of its range by 2055. Therefore, the rate of decline is placed here in the band 50-79% over ten years.
