Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as scarce and local in Nepal, frequently recorded in Bhutan, uncommon in the Himalayas, although more common in the north-eastern hills and rare in China (del Hoyo et al. 2007).
Trend justification: The population is suspected to be in decline owing to ongoing habitat destruction and fragmentation.
