Previously listed as Amazilia eliciae (Handbook of the Birds of the World and BirdLife International 2020), following Ornelas et al. (2014), and before that listed as Hylocharis eliciae (del Hoyo and Collar 2014), but moved to current genus following a recent overhaul of all genera by NACC, based on McGuire et al. Population justification: The global population is suspected to number 50,000-499,999 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2022).
Trend justification: The population trend has not been investigated. Tree cover within the range is lost at a rate of 11% over ten years (Global Forest Watch 2021, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein). Apart from humid forests, the species is also found in open, secondary growth, gallery forest and plantations (Arizmendi et al. 2021); consequently, population declines may potentially be slower than the current rate of tree cover loss suggests. Precautionarily, population declines are here placed in the band 1-19% over ten years.
