Justification of Red List category

This species has a very small population, has undergone very rapid recent declines and the remaining populations are continuing to decline as a result of the cage-bird trade. One of the three subspecies is suspected to have become extinct in the wild within the past ten years. The species is at very high risk of extinction in the wild.
