Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but this species is described as uncommon or local, though rather inconspicuous (Stotz et al. 1996, Winkler et al. 2020). Nevertheless, based on the high number of records within their large range (see eBird 2023), the population is unlikely to be small.

Trend justification: The population trend has not been investigated. Locally the species is likely affected by the die-back of Algarrobo Prosopis pallida trees (Baena et al. 2017, O. Whaley in litt. 2019, Whaley et al. 2020) and therefore declines are suspected. The rate of decline is unknown, but given the species' large range and tolerance of a variety of habitat any reduction is likely slow.
