Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be common in the western highlands but very local and scarce elsewhere on New Guinea (Beehler et al. 1986, Coates 1990). This population is estimated to be increasing in line with a range expansion into cultivated areas in New Guinea (del Hoyo et al. 2007).
