Current view: Data table and detailed info
Taxonomic note
Previously (Handbook of the Birds of the World and BirdLife International 2022) placed in Estrilda but moved to current genus following Olsson and Alström (2020). Considered conspecific with B. charmosyna in HBW, against modern interpretations of evidence (Fry and Keith 2004, Stevenson and Fanshawe 2002, Wolters 1985, Zimmerman et al. 1996), but split here reinstated. Proposed subspecies soligena (from Otjomassu Sandfield, in C Namibia) here synonymized with nominate. Two subspecies recognized.
