Population justification: During survey in February 2015 in the west part of the Ouémé Delta (Benin), a minimum of 1,520 mature individuals were counted in flocks of 5 to 140 birds (Gonin and Mercier 2016). At the same time of year, surveys in Nigeria in 2014 and 2015 counted a minimum of 400 individuals (O. Coker per J. Gonin in litt. 2016). Extrapolation the population size suggests a population of 2,000-3,500 individuals (J. Gonin in litt. 2016), which would roughly equate to between 1,300 and 2,300 mature individuals.

Trend justification: The species's population is suspected to be stable owing to the absence of any known threats, its association with disturbed habitats and tolerance of human activity (Roux and Otobotekere 2005).
