Current view: Data table and detailed info
Taxonomic note
Previously listed as Amazilia amazilia (del Hoyo and Collar 2014), but moved to current genus following a recent overhaul of all genera by NACC, based on McGuire et al. (2014), Stiles et al. (2017a, b) and others. Race alticola treated elsewhere as separate species (e.g. in HBW) on basis of coloration, song repertoire and habitat requirements (Weller 2000), but broad intergradation with dumerilii apparent, and differences in voice extensive in species and as yet taxonomically unattributable (Krabbe and Ridgely 2010). Nevertheless, subspecies fairly distinctive, notably southernmost caeruleigularis, with its blue throat (score 3) and greener dorsal area (1); further study desirable. Subspecies leucophoea frequently misspelt leucophaea (Dickinson and Remsen 2013). Six subspecies recognized.
