Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
This site is part of the much larger Vienna forest. It is dominated by
Quercus,
Carpinus,
Fagus,
Fraxinus and
Acer. Human activities include tourism and recreation, forestry and hunting.
The area contains important populations of species found in old broadleaved forests.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat to the forest is from high densities of wild boar
Sus scrofa, fallow deer
Dama dama, red deer
Cervus elaphus and mouflon
Ovis musimon which prevent forest and understorey regeneration. Parts of the forest are also subject to intensive forest management.
National High
International High2,256 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Lainzer Tiergarten, 2,260 ha). 2,256 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Lainzer Tiergarten, 2,256 ha).
