Zixishan Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in Chuxiong City. The main habitats in the IBA are coniferous forest, scrub and grassland, with a forest cover of 94%. The nature reserve consists of a 12,000 ha buffer zone and a 4,000 ha core area, and 1,753 ha of the national forest receive good protection.

Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as Zixishan Forest Farm in 1962, became a prefectural nature reserve in 1982, and upgraded to a provincial-level nature reserve (16,000 ha) in 1994. In 2000 it was established as a national forest park, and a management office was set up in 2001.
