Site description (2009 baseline)
Located in the eastern part of Yongde County, western Yunnan. Daxueshan mountain is a southern extension of the Hengduan Shan mountains, and is the watershed of the Nu Jiang and Lanchang Jiang rivers. The climate is southern subtropical, and is affected by the Yunnan monsoon. The vegetation in the reserve is well preserved, and is mainly southern subtropical forest.
Key biodiversity
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Tetracentron sinense and Helicia shweliensis. Animals include Nycticebus coucang, Hylobates concolor, Selenarctos thibetanus, Neofelis nebulosa and Manis pentadactyla.
