Xunbiela He Nature Reserve

Site location and context
Located in Xunke County. Xunbiela He is a tributary of the middle reaches of the Heilongjiang River, with a length of 279 km. The total area of the river basin is 15,738 km2.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Cervus elaphus, Alces alces, Selenarctos thibetanus, Ursus arctos, Felis lynx, Lutra lutra, Felis bengalensis and Lepus timidus. Important plants include Pinus koraisensis, Picea sp., Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica, Quercus mongolica and Fraxinus mandshurica. The IBA is a major spawning ground for fish Oncorhynchus spp.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1982 to protect cold-water fish and the riverine ecosystem.
