Site description (2009 baseline):

Xiaoxi Nature Reserve is located at the western tip of the Wuling mountains. The south-eastern part of the reserve is adjacent to Yuanling County, with Langxi Town to the south-east, Zhenxi Town to the south and Huilong Town to the west.

Non-bird biodiversity: Animals include Andrias davidianus, Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Naemorhedus goral and Capricornis sumatraensis.

Established as a provincial-level nature reserve (13,000 ha) in 1984, and upgraded to a national nature reserve (24,800 ha) in 2001.
