Site description (2001 baseline)
Xarardheere (Haradere)–Awale Rugno lies along the Indian Ocean coast between Hobyo (site SO010) to the north and the town of Ceeldheer to the south. The habitat includes strips of coastal dune behind which is a dense cover of AcaciaCommiphora bush as well as semi-desert grassland and scrub. Also included are several saltpans.

Key biodiversity
See Box and Tables 2 and 3 for key species. Of the Somali–Masai biome species, Batis perkeo, Anthoscopus musculus, Serinus donaldsoni and Ploceus spekei have been recorded from few other IBAs nationally.

Non-bird biodiversity: Mammals of conservation concern that occur, or which used to do so, include Panthera leo (VU), Acinonyx jubatus (VU), Hyaena hyaena (LR/nt), Ammodorcas clarkei (VU), Gazella soemmerringii (VU) and G. spekei (VU).
