Wuyi Shan Nature Reserve (Jiangxi)


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Jiangxi Wuyi Shan Nature Reserve is located at the southern tip of Qianshan County, and has a core area of 2,649 ha. The nature reserve lies at the north-western slope of Huanggang Shan (2,158 m), and is adjacent to Fujian Wuyi Shan Nature Reserve. The IBA comprises subtropical mountains, and has more than 10 peaks above 1,500 m.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Bretschneidera sinensis, Emmenopterys henryi, Liriodendron chinense and Ginkgo biloba. Nationally protected insects include Teinopalpus aureus. Animals include Neofelis nebulosa, Manis pentadactyla, Capricornis sumatraensis, Viverricula indica, Viverra zibetha and Felis temmincki.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve (5,333 ha) in 1981, and upgraded to a national nature reserve (16,007 ha) in 2002.
