Site location and context
Wulingyuan is located in Zhangjiajie City, and is formed by the combination of Zhangjiajie Giant Salamander National Nature Reserve and three provincial-level nature reserves. The IBA is in the transition between the western part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and the eastern lowlands.
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Davidia involucrata, Tsuga longibracteata, Taxus chinensis and Liriodendron chinense. Animals include Andrias davidianus, Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Naemorhedus goral, Capricornis sumatraensis and Andrias davidianus.
Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
The Wulingyuan IBA comprises Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Zhangjiajie Nature Reserve (4,800 ha), Zhangjiajie Giant Salamander Nature Reserve (14,285 ha), Suoxiyu Nature Reserve (3,931 ha) and Tianzishan Nature Reserve (5,500 ha). Wulingyuan was designated in 1992 as a ‘World Heritage Site’ under the World Heritage Convention.
