Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Wuliang Shan is located in Jingdong County, western Yunnan. It is the watershed of the Lanchang Jiang and Chuan He (upper course of Red River) rivers. It is an elongated mountain with a north-south orientation, which extends 50 km from north to south and 7 km from east to west. The IBA has a southern subtropical monsoon climate, with prominent vertical vegetation zonation. Well-preserved broadleaf evergreen forest is found at 2,000-2,800 m, covering an area of 11,361 ha (48.6% of the reserve area).

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Euptelea pleiospermum and Tetracentron sinense. Animals include Panthera tigris, Neofelis nebulosa, Panthera pardus, Nycticebus coucang, Macaca assamensis, Presbytis phayrei and Hylobates concolor.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
The IBA is partially protected in Wuliang Shan Nature Reserve (23,355 ha), which was established at the provincial-level in 1986 and subsequently upgraded to a national nature reserve (30,938 ha).
