Warmia Site

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2010 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Whooper Swan Cygnus cygnus LC breeding (2007–2009) 2–3 pairs C6
Corncrake Crex crex LC breeding (2009) 600–800 males C1, C6
Common Crane Grus grus LC breeding (2004–2009) 300–400 pairs C6
Black Stork Ciconia nigra LC breeding (2004–2009) 15–20 pairs C6
White Stork Ciconia ciconia LC breeding (2008–2009) 800–900 pairs C6
Lesser Spotted Eagle Clanga pomarina LC breeding (1995–2003) 90–110 pairs C6
Western Marsh-harrier Circus aeruginosus LC breeding (2004–2009) 60–80 pairs C6
Montagu's Harrier Circus pygargus LC breeding (2004–2009) 15–30 pairs C6
White-tailed Sea-eagle Haliaeetus albicilla LC breeding (2004–2009) 4–7 pairs C6

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2010. The most recent assessment (2011) is shown below.
