Wanglang Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located 120 km north-west of Pingwu County, at the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. The vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest (2,300-2,600 m), coniferous forest (2,600-3,500 m), alpine scrub and grassland (3,500-4,400 m) and alpine vegetation (4,400-4,900 m).

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Animals include Ailurpoda melanolenca, Pygathrix roxellanae, Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Felis lynx, Felis temmincki, Felis manul, Cervus unicolor, Moschus sifanicus, Moschus berezovskii and Pseudois nayaur.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve (32,297 ha) in 1963 and subsequently upgraded to a national nature reserve.
