Walebing

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2009 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Carnaby's Black-cockatoo Zanda latirostris EN breeding (2003–2008) 15–20 nests A1, A3
Western Corella Cacatua pastinator LC resident (2007–2008) abundant A2, A3
Regent Parrot Polytelis anthopeplus LC resident (2007–2008) uncommon A3
Rufous Treecreeper Climacteris rufus LC resident (2007–2008) frequent A3
Blue-breasted Fairywren Malurus pulcherrimus LC resident (2007–2008) uncommon A3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2009. The most recent assessment (2008) is shown below.

IBA conservation status
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2008 not assessed high not assessed
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes unset -

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Natural system modifications happening now whole area/population (>90%) slow but significant deterioration high
Invasive and other problematic species and genes happening now whole area/population (>90%) slow but significant deterioration high
Agricultural expansion and intensification happening now some of area/population (10-49%) slow but significant deterioration medium

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
