Wahuishan Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in the northern part of Jiulong County. The IBA has steep mountains and deep river valleys. The vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with alpine coniferous forest from 3,100-4,000 m, and alpine scrub and grassland above 4,000 m.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals including Panthera pardus, Cervus albirostris, Macaca mulatta, Ailurus fulgens, Felis lynx, Felis temmincki, Moschus berezovskii, Pseudois nayaur, Ovis ammon, Cervus unicolor and Naemorhedus goral.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1995.
