Site location and context
Wae Wuul is a grassland on the beach with several small group of forests (MacKinnon
et.al.1982). Topography of Wae Wuul is hilly with steep slopes (around Gunung Manis), with the highest elevation 300 m asl.
The endangered Flores Crow
Corvus florensis lives in this area. Yellow-crested Cockatoo
Cacatua sulphurea found in this area un to 1989 (Mochtar 1989, Trainor & Lesmana 2000). Probably, the Yellow-crested Cockatoo came from Rinca Island.
Habitat type dominated by grassland and a few tropical dry deciduous forest along of river (Trainor & Lesmana 2000).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Illegal hunting, burning grassland, and forest conversion for plantation and housing (MacKinnon et.al 1982; Trainor and Lesmana 2000).
Proposed as a Nature Reserve based on SK. Menteri Kehutanan No. 176/Kpts-II/1985 7 July 1985 (3000 ha) (Anon 1998).
