Site description (2019 baseline)
The area of Vlasina is situated in the far south-east of Serbia, bordering in a smaller extent with state borders of Bulgaria and North Macedonia in the south. The most dominant landscape feature is the artificial accumulation Vlasina Lake with it's floating peat islands, surrounding peat bogs, wet meadows and numerous streams, followed by numerous surrounding mountain tops with pastures (Vardenik, Čemernik) and open rock habitats (Besna Kobila), as well as beech and birch forests. The IBA is located within municipality borders of Crna Trava, Surdulica, Bosilegrad, Trgovište and Vranjska Banja.
