Site description (2002 baseline)
Site located in the left margin of final branch of the River Quarteira. It is integrated in undertaking of Vilamoura and essencially composed of agriculture-land, cultivations and wetland.In the south and west, the area is limited for agriculture-land and pine-forest; in the north is limited for golf course and in the east for urbanizations.

Key biodiversity
Important site for Porphyrio porphyrio, there are 20 birds during reproductive season and about 7/12 breeding pairs.High number of herons, a dormitory of------------------- and the habitual breeding Ardea purpurea and Ixobrychus minutus.During the migration are-----------, Falco peregrinum and important number of transaharian passerines.
